For Everything A Season- Spring
Celebration of Spring
Choose one of the options below as a creative exercise for Part IV
Option 1: Guided Walk with Scripture
Often, our relationship with God is something we experience primarily in our minds. But the truth is that our bodies and our physical surroundings can also be powerful places of encounter with God.
For the next 30 minutes we invite you to go on a walk with God, using the audio reflection linked below. (You may want to download it first if you’re somewhere without consistent cell reception.) No matter whether you’re in a crowded urban center or a quiet spot in the country, God will be with you; this walk is an exercise in becoming aware of God’s presence wherever we find ourselves.
Note: If walking is physically challenging for you, if you’re someplace where walking isn’t safe or practical, or if this exercise doesn’t appeal to you, we encourage you to try Option 2.
Option 2: Becoming Aware of God’s Delight
It can sometimes be difficult to see ourselves as God sees us. This exercise invites God to share this perspective with you.
For the next 30 minutes we invite you to sit with God, the gardener, as you would sit with a friend who is proud of their garden. Remembering that you yourself are God’s garden, what might God like to say to you? Listen to the gardener’s excitement about this garden and the change in season. What is God looking forward to? What life and beauty does God enjoy about your life? If you feel comfortable doing so, ask God to give you a picture that you can explore together. Write down anything that seems significant. You may want to find a memento that will help you recall this time in the future.
Option 3: Visio Divina
Allow the visual beauty of spring to help you encounter God and God’s delight in the areas of new growth in your life.
Use the photograph below as a focus for a prayer of visio divina. If you’re not familiar with this practice, you’ll find a guide here.
